I'm not sure I've ever been completely organized. Bits and pieces, fits and starts - yes. But always? No. Lately, with a few shows coming up, that's become more of a problem.
Right, I haven't even posted about all the shows I'm doing this season yet, have I? There's another thing to add to the list. Oh! And I don't have any lists made yet, either. I'm keeping everything on scraps of paper, and in my head. This is a problem, obviously. My first solution is to not panic, just keep working. Good, right? My next solution is this notebook.
(You can click on this picture for a bigger version.) Spiral-bound so I can lay it flat and scan things easily, 30% post-consumer fiber, manufactured with certified renewable energy, perforated edges so you can tear things out easily, thick enough paper so "gel" ink doesn't soak through, all good things, etc. Best of all, though, I can put sketches and notes and things in one place, so I'm not looking everywhere for everything. (There's a part of me that keeps trying to say "I don't have time to organize!" But at least some of this has to happen.)
One page with all the circles I currently have and what I'm using them for, one page with all the gauges I'm using for different designs, one page with all the numbers of completed pieces I have so far, one page with ring sizes I've made so far, a running list of supplies I need to get, etc.
I've consolidated sketches found on random pieces of scrap paper, and recycled the scraps. I even got rid of all these used "Mad Cow" templates. They're awfully cute, but they're taking up precious space on my desk.
Next week my show partner and I do a test-run of our booth set-up, and once we've done that I can start giving finished pieces a final clean, and store them in plastic (sorry) bags with anti-tarnish strips. Chains pose an interesting problem, as do shows that occur close together. I'm sure I'll figure it all out. Hopefully before my head explodes.
